FEUERHAND Nr. 276 PREWAR 'LARGE FOUNT' BABY

FEUERHAND Nr. 276 'BABY LARGE FOUNT'

This particular model of Feuerhand has almost no documentation. As of the posting of 1/16/2023, this is the only second model of the Baby Large Fount that has surfaced. The consensus of the collector group is that is a truly rare model to have survived which is indicated by only two being known.  It is also not referenced at all in the Feuerhand Timeline documents.

One could maybe venture a guess that this model was going to be a possible export to the USA thus the English words "LARGE FOUNT". Dietz had started to use those words on certain lanterns also and Nier and Dietz were fierce competitors.

It came to me from Canada and appears to be all original. The globe is etched with Feuerhand Baby 275. The globes for the 275 and 276 are identical in size. This globe is very early and in overall good condition although some of the etching is now gone. The lantern was painted black and in this case it protected most of the original tin. Is it a solid lantern with no leaks and is actually quite amazing with the condition.

In the photo gallery I have the Baby Large Fount next to my Feuerhand LTD edition of a FH276.

There does not appear to be a noticeable difference in size from the newer FH 276 and the Baby Large Fount.

Lifter is on the right side of the fuel cap; the bottom is NOT flat. There is, however, the banner around the Feuerhand logo which indicates a time frame from 1934-1938. The exact year of production is unknown to me.

CIRCA: 1934 - 1938 (?)

    Hi Bob,

Read my tips on restoration on this website. You would need to hunt for the proper fuel cap and in the meantime, a cork works just fine. Please contact me directly if you have specific questions.

I have a “ made in Germany” Nr. 276 that came from my wife’s family who homesteaded in western Canada early 20th century. They were danish. The glass globe has no markings. While a bit decrepit it is I believe easily fully functional.
I’d like to give it to my daughter. The tank reservoir is somewhat dirty. I’ve used a vinegar and soap combo to irrigate it . The pour cap is missing part of what I believe was a cork seal but easily screws down to seal .
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers ,

Hello, a few days ago I found what appears to be an early Nr.276, with the "Germany" markings. I have found very little information about it. The burner has no markings of any kind, but is similar to the Large Fount. If you send an e-mail I will gladly forward photos so we can examine it. I live in Canada. It may have been brought by German immigrants. Reach me at: glottawa@gmail.com
