MAX HÄNEL OF SCHLETTAU - 'TAIFUN' Sturmlaterne

MAX HÄNEL OF SCHLETTAU - 'TAIFUN' Sturmlaterne

This is an extraordinary lantern.  The globe is beautifully embossed showing a storm scene.  If you look closely on the right hand side of the globe, above the waves, you will see a small lighthouse.   There are two storm birds on either side of the embossed lantern in the globe.  The embossing on the globe matches the graphic on the letter head that was used by Hänel.

'TAIFUN' was a trademark of Max Hänel.  It is interesting to note that it was Hermann Nier who purchased all of Max Hänel patents when Hänel went bankrupt sometime near the end of the 1920's.  Both Hermann Nier and Hänel were in close proximity of each other in Beierfeld.

The letters 'D.R.P.' on the fount are the only marks on the lantern. 'D.R.P.' =  Deutsches Reichspatent.

The wick burner was made by Thiel & Bardenheuer - Metallwarenfabrik - Ruhla in Thüringen.

As you can see from the photos, there is no metal filler cap and the insert for the fuel cap has been ripped out.

Information on this lantern is very scarce and I welcome any comments or corrections.
